In addition, other spells that change your size have no effect on you while you are under the effects of a polymorph spell. If a new polymorph spell is cast on you (or you activate a polymorph effect, such as wild shape), you can decide whether or not to allow it to affect you, taking the place of the old spell. You can only be affected by one polymorph spell at a time. This only comes into play if you multi-class and then not very often. You also lose any class features that depend upon form, but those that allow you to add features (such as sorcerers that can grow claws) still function. You lose all extraordinary and supernatural abilities that depend on your original form/race (such as keen senses, scent, and darkvision), as well as any natural attacks and movement types possessed by your original form You lose your AC bonus based on any armor or shield you had equipped including any enhancement bonus or special effect from magic armor (unless the magic item says otherwise) and any weapons you may have had equipped. For example, your Amulet of Might Fists still works, but your Wand of Cure Light Wounds is useless as long as you’re in Wild Shape. You cannot activate any magic items thus merged, but anything with an active effect still works. You lose the ability to speak and cast spells with verbal, somatic, or material components (unless you have the feats that allow you to do these things while Wild Shaped) You do NOT gain any adjustments otherwise based on size. You gain adjustments to your ability scores and natural armor based on the spell being emulated. While it doesn’t specifically state it or exclude it, you gain the creature’s reach based on size as it's a function of their natural attack You gain size bonuses/penalties to AC, attacks, CMB and hide checks (scroll down for the table with size modifiers) You gain abilities possessed by the base creature based on the spell being emulated (for instance Beast Shape I gives you: climb 30 feet, fly 30 feet (average maneuverability), swim 30 feet, darkvision 60 feet, low-light vision, and scent) You gain the base creature’s land speed (other modes of movement are considered “abilities”) You gain any natural attacks (claw, bite, etc.) and proficiency with natural attacks possessed by the base creature Exactly what that means is up to interpretation, but most DMs will let you be familiar if either that animal exists in the climate you come from or you can make a successful Knowledge check against the creature’s CR. You can only transform into a creature you are "familiar" with. It “upgrades” itself allowing you to turn into larger animals, other creature types and gain more powerful abilities as you increase your Druid level. It lasts for 1 hour per druid level (rather than 1 minute) It's a Supernatural Ability, so it can't be interrupted and doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity like casting the spell (nor does it require verbal, somatic, or material components). I copied this explanation a while ago cuz it's the most comprehensive I've ever seen:įirst off, remember that Wild Shape acts just like the spell Beast Shape I with a few exceptions:
